The research is a powerful weapon in the hands of those who believe SS attraction is a sin and against god's plan. Not really, or at least not for purposes other than self-congratulation. It is possible to identify all sorts of demographic sub-groups where the children underperform the average. To which of these are we going to deny children, even if the numbers are conclusive? The demographic studies show that younger generations are more accepting towards the LGBT community, I don't enjoy giving fundamentalists a way to reach back into the well and yank someone out. The research, imho, is powerful in that regard if misused You hit the nail on the head. If we discriminate against the gay community, what should we do in those instances where other sub-groups underperform? I suspect there hasn't been much follow up from Christians on this thread because they sense it's minefield.

I suspect there hasn't been much follow up from Christians on this thread because they sense it's minefield. Only one of them would notice. The other wanders into the minefield with great regularity, but fails to notice how often he gets blown up. The other reason we haven't heard much is because there are two of them. The latter problem is possibly fixable.

Lol, it's not possible avoid the issues and post red herrings so regularly without a basic understanding that you are wrong or your position is an embarrassment.

Okay, so back to my concern about the possible influence of straight kids of gay parents being assumed to be gay themselves.
Once it became known in the tiny little town where I taught for most of my career that my best friend and I were supportive of gays, the ignorant ("good" Christians all) convinced that gay is a choice started the rumor that she and I were not only gay but a couple. After all, no sane straight person would think it okay to be gay, a sick, perverted "lifestyle."
She and I ignored the rumormongering as much as we could, but privately it was really hurtful that people would actually think us so twisted as to attempt to "recruit" our students.
That experience gave me more insight than I cared to have into how false accusations can stick and put a person in a nasty position you did nothing at all to deserve. It would be much worse for a teenager taunted as the "fag kid of fags." Hence my comment that the graduation rate might be lower because kids of gay parents are taunted to the point that they can't function at all well in school.

Nevermind that--what about all these straight parents who keep having gay kids? Reminds me of the blog I read by a gay couple who adopted a son who's straight. When told he had to be a queer because his parents were, the kid snapped back that both his dads had straight parents, so if anybody was gay, it was the guy accusing him, not him. Great comeback, huh?

Okay, so back to my concern about the possible influence of straight kids of gay parents being assumed to be gay themselves. Nevermind that--what about all these straight parents who keep having gay kids? Do you think that parents who don't drink alcohol but have an alcoholic son, is genetic? I have heard of those who had one drink and that is all it took.

I have heard of those who had one drink and that is all it took. So many commonalities: Gays are diseased and need 10-step programs to help them avoid gay sex. All it takes to turn someone into a sexually active gay is watching The Birdcage or Ellen's daytime talkshow. You really haven't a clue how thoroughly offensive it is to imply that same-sex love is a disease, do you, and abstinence from sexual expression of that love the "cure"?

You still can't resist the impulse to compare homosexuality to alcoholism, can you? At least this time you left out drugs, pedophilia, bestiality, theft and murder. Good strategy--don't blow your load in the opening salvo. As for the question, you'll have to clarify it--what part of your ignorance of genetics do you wish me to address?

There is a far slipperier slope here than in the genetics thread. Hi Fitz: You can say that again. Heaven help the poor fool who publicly points out the statistical shortcomings of the parenting of any particular "low school performance" demographic groups. Anyway, I've not read the study, but I've looked at others and the academic success of kids seems to correlate most closely with the education level of the parents and of course the value the parents place on education. It's a values thing, not a genetic thing. My guess would be that Gay and Lesbian parents are probably at least as highly educated and value education at least as much as the general population. So I'd be surprised if statistics showing lesser performance among the children of Gays and Lesbians is supported in the long run. My bet is that children of Gay and Lesbian parents will slot in right next to the children of white middle class parents when the dust settles. Steve's question of "what would you do about it" is apt. A society certainly would not do anything about it, as in legislating against the right of certain groups to have children or adopt, if the society values freedom. We might encourage every family to place more emphasis on education I suppose. How did you get five stars so quickly? I'm guessing that the fix is in. Jim

Is there something wrong with going with science? Or was this thread posted with no thought of even discussing it? www.medicalnewstoday.com/releases/199792.php

What does alcoholism have to do with homosexuality?
