I know they say that radical islamists are a small percentage... it just seems like it is greater than what is reported.

Outside the US, I would agree. It seems that when you move towards Islamic information capitals/outlets the more radical Muslims become. Poverty, ignorance and corruption have a lot to do with the situation, though not an excuse. Peaceful coexistence doesn't appear to be a goal.
