As I've always known, there are natural explanations for how and why life appears the way it is. Most of the world's religions attribute our moral customs as a gift from god, but there may be more down to earth and man made explanations for our noble character. Certainly not enough to convince true believers, but this research does hint at chemical/genetic influences in our ancestors that may explain why hugs and smiles work so well in our society.Society bloomed with gentler personalities and more feminine faces: Technology boom 50,000 years ago correlated with less testosterone

I do see a physiological explanation for many of our behaviors and attitudes. Our physical make-up does have a strong influence over our attitudes and beliefs.

Anyone who's done much comparative study of scientific with cultural histories can see how deities get less necessary and die off as scientific and technological advancements have an impact. Fewer gods needed to fill that gap.
Now, if something along the lines of another Ice Age wipes out most of us and our tech, then I bet you'd see that gap get lots bigger again with more gods being born to fill it.

P.S. Dot Your Handy Spellcheck advises that it's "Chantilly." Admittedly, spelling that "Shantilly" would make more sense in terms of the pronunciation, but then one of the charms of English for this lit geek is that so many words aren't spelled the least bit like you'd think they should be. What are you talking about, Dot? I don't see a misspelling anywhere.

(No charge for this gratuitous service. ) Darn and I went through the trouble of making a check out. Won't let go to waste I'll just change the "Pay to" and give it to the "Noble Association to Save Tibetan Yaks"

Yaks are noble beasts. Works for me. Even if you were to find out it was a Miraculous Check for 10 million dollars. The Miracle is I only have 37 Cents in the bank. I am counting on the Yaks not being able to sign the check.

Woodrowli,
Don't ever screw a yak out of a million dollars, it's bad karma.

Woodrowli, Don't ever screw a yak out of a million dollars, it's bad karma. A Yak once spanked a baby Wildebeest. The Momma Wildebeest beat the daylingts out of the Yak and told her to "Go paddle her own gnu" Now to tie this all in with the OP: Yaks still have high testosterone levels and never developed the more feminine faces.

If a Yak is found with green fur, we'll know this reincarnation thing is real. Then again, a bald Yak would do the same,

Woodrowli,
Well, it's all relative, so to speak. Einstein once said something like god wouldn't play games of chance with the universe, but as it turns out, quantum physics has something different to say about that. So if a talking gray haired wooly beast appeared on your homestead, something definitely amazing would be going on, I'm not sure it would be god/spiritually related.

But reincarnation does not require a god. It is all sleight of hand and explained by quantum physics. Shucks In my next life even I could make the claim reincarnation exists. But I will not do that
