As much as I would like to maintain an open door, "Historian", aka "Mama Cass" is clearly a troll without any intention of joining the forum. FWIW the IP addresses were identical except for the last digit. Talking points memo:
1. The decision to ban H/MC has nothing to do with censorship and everything to do with the fact that tolerating deliberate trolling will not help to attract new participants. His posts will be left up--I still refuse to delete free expression. Bad behavior usually speaks for itself much louder than post deletion does. FWIW, this site allows for temporary "cool downs", locked threads, and all sorts of nifty things that might help restore order without deleting speech. 2. He/she was invited to join the forum despite having posted as a disruptive guest under multiple identities and declined. 3. As we say in the business--the solution to pollution is dilution. Good posting will drown this sort of BS out. Post early, post often, invite a friend.
I hope everyone is satisfied that enough time and leeway was offered here.

In my view, you bent over backwards, went the extra mile, gave him the benefit of the doubt, went out of your way and so forth and so on. Jim * happy cliche day!
** just kidding, there is no such thing as cliche day, but there should be.

FWIW, if participants want to remain anonymous, guest status is not necessary--feel free to register using a pseudonym. I personally still prefer this, although my "cover" has been more than blown by the emails I have sent you folks to entice you to join the forum.
Guests remain welcome to browse, post sporadically, etc. However, once participation has become regular, it's not unreasonable to ask you to work within the system.

Why do "New" posts appear in this thread when obviously no one has posted since April 16?

If you never read them, they can stay new for you on certain pages--specifically on the sub-forum page, in this case General Board.
