Yes. Hopefully they will be very clear that they are firing her for dereliction of duty. Any follow-up claim that she is being fired for her beliefs would be a sham. Jim That won't matter IMO. Perception is everything and the die has been cast. It will be interpreted as an infringement of Freedom of Religion. Hi Ken: Even those who support this clerk ought to recognize that performing the tasks of county clerk can not rationally be described as practicing religion Actually, performing the tasks of county clerk in our governmental system is mandated to be about the farthest thing from exercising religion imaginable, because of the Establishment Clause. I view it as simply as the following:
When a new law is established (like the one SCOTUS did) there are always loose ends to tie up because they can't think of everything. The same problem came, just like this one, when SCOTUS enacted a law and redefined words for political reasons.
There were loose ends that had to be tidied up like Hobby Lobby, Christian Universities et al.
This is one of those situations. North Carolina, to permit freedom of religion, had taken care of the issue before it appeared but Ky lagged behind.
I'm sure they will tidy it up.

I think that KY did "tidy it up" when they ordered all clerks in KY to issue licenses to gay couples. All but Kim Davis complied. Jim

I'm sure that there will still be quite a few issues that will surface.

Clerk Kim Davis is certainly enjoying her celebrity status. Whooppin and hollerin and rubbing elbows with politicians under the adoring eyes of her fans. Now she's demanding that KY make allowances so that her signature and the power of her office don't appear on marriage licenses. Let's see what she does when she goes back to her job. Will she be vindictive against those in her office who issued the licenses in her absence, will she close the office, will she continue to make gays feel like second class citizens?
It's easy Ms Davis, how about Plan B - KY or the county should fire you for not doing your job. Obviously, she thinks KY owes her something other than a paycheck, and that her celebrity status makes her irreplaceable.

Having to tidy up and having issues are not good reasons to deny gays their rights. It's better to resolve those issues rather than deny someone their rights, even Kim Davis has rights, but not at the expense of gays.

I suspect Maria Goldstein would have a good case against Office Depot if she sued, I hope she does. People of fsith should boycott the company. Office Depot's arguments are rather lame.
